HELLO FELLOWS NATION!! It’s Shine, I’m a current fellow, and I’m officially taking over the blog. It’s crazy to think that we are already two months into our Fellows year; October went by in the blink of an eye. I’m so thrilled to share with you the highlights!
Fall Advance
We kicked off October with Fall Advance! We got away to the mountains (shoutout to the Rainey’s for having us in their home), and Martha Metzler came with us to help us start working through our stories. Through her teaching, time in solitude, and a hike up Stone Mountain, we reflected on lies we were believing and brought them to light to live in the True Story. Then, Hef surprised us with a trip to Alpha and Omega corn maze. It turns out we were there on princess day, so obviously we leaned into it. We had a blast watching pigs race, riding tricycles, and playing blind volleyball. We ended Fall Advance by worshipping together and sharing our reflections from the weekend. It was a powerful time, and it was so cool to see how God hand-picked each of us for life with one another this year.
Makella’s Birthday
This month we had the privilege of celebrating Makella’s birthday! On her actual birthday, Makella, Genevieve, and I went to the Carolina Classic Fair with our First Pres small group. The following Monday, we celebrated Makella at Round Table with words of encouragement and apple pie! Makella is creative, loving, delightful, and brings beauty everywhere she goes. She brings empathy and deep care into all of her friendships, and we are so grateful to know her this year!
Crisis Control
This month, we served at Crisis Control! Crisis Control is a nonprofit in Winston-Salem that seeks to help people with basic life needs, as well as anyone facing a crisis. We learned about poverty in the United States and took part in a poverty simulation to better understand what it really looks like. After, we spent time sorting cans of food, restocking the food pantry, and making boxes. It was such an eye-opening experience!
Leader Lunches and Classes
For our first Leader Lunch of the month, we had the privilege of speaking with Steve Gallagher about his career path, trusting God with what’s next, and how we came to Fellows. Next, we were hosted by Lynn Brewer who helped us think about forming a mission statement for our lives. Finally, Susan Nash encouraged our hearts to stay present with the Lord in this season of life and to know that His plans are always good. Thank you to each of these leaders for sharing your stories with us and teaching us valuable lessons!
We’ve also enjoyed learning in our classes. This month we covered topics like budgeting, networking, resonance and anxiety, story work, and started our mini-series on the Old Testament. It’s been a genuine delight and joy to be learning from so many wise, knowledgable, and passionate teachers.
Adventures in Winston-Salem (and beyond)
We’ve had a blast this month living in Winston-Salem! This month has been filled with hikes, bonfires, watching Dancing With the Stars, venturing out to Charlotte, ice cream runs, hosting dinner parties, hanging with alumni, and even silent discos. We’ve made so many amazing memories. We’re also very ready to experience more fall weather, but most importantly, we are expectant for all that the Lord has in store for us here in Winston. Please pray for us as we continue to work, explore, form friendships, and learn more about Christ! Until next month!
