UPDATE Week of Feb 6
Happy Birthday Miranda!
Winter in Winston...
There are a lot of things we love about Winston-Salem. One thing is most certainly Moravian Stars in winter time. The bridge into Old Salem is one of the best spots to enjoy it.
Round Table
We had a fantastic Round Table at David and Tammy Priest's home. In addition to a fabulous meal, we had the privilege of hearing Tammy's testimony (it's a good one!)
Worship and Mission Trip Prep followed. A great time was had by all.
Tammy is also Emi's mentor. Lucky ladies...
Leader Lunch
We had an awesome Leader Lunch with one of our favorite Fellows Friends, Joanna Lyall.
Joanna brings it with a powerpoint timeline and her top 10 lessons learned (which has ballooned to 17 over the years!)
Her transparency shines.
Such a gift! Thanks Joanna!
Youth Ski Trip
Lucy, Emi, and Wyatt went on the Hope Ski Weekend. It was Emi's first time on skis! They returned wind-burned, smiling, and sore.
Nonprofit Action
The Fellows and Piedmont Federal joined forces to raise close to $500 for the Samaritan Ministries Penny Campaign! That's a lot of pennies!
Had a great time over at Dress for Success as well. Robin and Ginger certainly look the part!
Recruiting
Thanks for praying our Wake Guy in
Welcome Ian!
Since Prayer seems to be working: pray for Michael, Jenna, Jordyn, Marley, and Evelyn!
Also - if someone comes to mind while you are praying...

Shannon Rainey and Ned took the opportunity to serenade our living legend, Myrtie Davis last week. She has loved on Fellows since the beginning and loved on me since I was the age of our Fellows! That's a long time. We love you Myrtie!
A Quiet Week
The Fellows all returned for Round Table on Monday night. We had an extended time around "The Whale" our dining room table and worship in "The Play Room."
On Wednesday instead of Leader Lunch, we watched "The Butterfly Circus" movie and talked about our upcoming Testimony Advance.
The Fellows made the Love Out Loud Website!!!
Friday, we gave the Fellows off! I hosted a solitude day up at the mountains. Louise and Ned took a break from solitude and went on an epic run.
Things will be revving back up this week though!
RECRUITING
Ned took Seth (potential fellow) to one of our fine eating establishments (The Dukes Restaurant) to see if their tenderloin could push him over the edge. We will see!
We are interviewing folks as we speak for next year. So now is not too early to encourage folks to apply! Go to our website to learn more:

UPDATE Week of Dec 20
We had a great last week of our Fellows First Semester with festivities and special events and loving the city and some sweet intentional time together.
Party Time!
Thank you Tim and Julie Gupton for extravagantly hosting the annual Fellows Christmas Party
This is Hef's shining moment as she led us in Reindeer Games and shenanigans
Meg brought the most surprising white elephant gift - a live fish!
Love Feast and Leader Lunch and Classes
We were all too in the moment to remember to take pictures for these sweet moments. But they are still worth mentioning. On Wednesday we had Leader Lunch with the one and only Nigel Alston to end our semester on an exclamation point.
We had our annual Fellows Love Feast with Nigel reading the passages for us. Way better than Ned. Our buns were provided by Tammy Priest. Thanks Tammy!
Classes ended on a high note as well on Friday.
Podcasts
Fellows Alum Mathu Gibson shared about his life on the Square Pizza Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/
Ned was Interviewed by the Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber on theirs: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/

Christmas for the City
It is hard to pick one highlight out of this week...but one of the many highlights was Christmas for the City. We had so much fun volunteering and participating in this community-wide event
Other News
Ned was able to be joined by Lia at the annual Christmas Rotary Lunch
David rocked out at the Band Concert
Ned got to party into the night in celebration of Keith and Emily's new store in Clemmons
It was easier to take a picture of Phillip Summers trying to get a picture of the neighborhood than to get a picture of the neighborhood as we passed out t-shirts to everyone.
Fellows Alum Kelly Martin is now Dr. Kelly Martin
and the world's newest physical therapist.
Recruiting
We are also celebrating two new Fellows who have committed for next year!
Will Parker of Chattanooga, Tennessee

UPDATE Week of Dec 12
Celebration Time
It was a multi-year Fellows party on Saturday with Fellows from Year 2, 3, 4, and 5 all in attendance!
The Week
Round Table...we had a little Covid hiccup so Round Table moved to the Fellows House this week. We still were blessed with a Rainey enchilada casserole! Ned needed to slip out for a presentation but made it back in time to finish up a great study on Isaiah 53 led by Hef.
Leader Lunch...we had a BLAST with Betsy Annese who came to the Fellows House to share her amazing story of vocation and faith. I honestly would pay to hear this woman speak. Her stories are a hoot! THANK YOU BETSY!!!
Classes...we had two fabulous classes once again with the dynamic duo of Katy Benoit and Venneikia Samantha Williams. Then, it was off to lunch!
Festival of Lights
The Fellows joined a longstanding Winston-Salem tradition and waited in line with half the world to see the Festival of Lights at Tanglewood on Friday!
Half were in the cab - the other half were in the bed.
Celebrating Garrett and Caroline!
The highlight of the week was easily the wedding of Garrett Briggs and Caroline Wolfe. What a love story! Perhaps the coolest part of the story is that twenty-some years ago, when Caroline, who was born early and almost didn't survive, was only six months old, Paul Briggs, Garrett's dad, met her! And prayed for her! Little did he know he was praying for his future daughter-in-law!
We had a great cloud of witnesses to cheer these two friends along!
Congratulations Garrett and Caroline. We could not be more happy for you two!
Recruiting
We have extended two offers to Fellows for next year's class.
We have another interview in twenty minutes and are in discussions with a few more.
This holiday season, be on the lookout for college seniors and recent graduates looking for the next thing to do - WE WILL BE THEIR NEXT THING!

The Fellows and friends jumped in to take part in a very meaningful moment for our city as we installed a bridge over Peter's Creek on the Crossnore Property as part of the new Emma and Stuart Thomas Trail which BRIDGES Buena Vista and Boston Thurmond neighborhoods.
This project is near and dear to our hearts
And I get chills just thinking about what this means for our city. Such an honor to be a part of it and be among the first to cross the bridge!

We are fresh off my favorite weekend of the Fall - the WS Fellows Fall Advance. It's this weekend that often stands out as one of the pivotal moments for the Fellows. It is a time to reflect and rethink and get more vulnerable with each other and bond. It often is the weekend when the group finally glues together. This weekend was no different. What a special special time .

Ned Just Keeps On Getting Older!
We celebrated Ned's birthday on Monday at the Miller Mansion! It was extra special for the old Nedster as there were several alumni who popped in to also share the love.
Leader Extraordinaire
Wednesday, we had a fantastic Leader Lunch with Steve Lineberger, a true leader of leaders. Thanks Steve! You never disappoint.
Farm Life
Believe it or not, we are the only Fellows Program in the world that lives on a farm. I mean, I have no idea how we would entertain these kiddos without Tutti Fruitti and a horse escape!
The donkey almost knocked on our front door!
SAM and EGGS
Several Fellows woke up extra early to help serve at the annual Sam and Eggs Breakfast. Some of our past Fellows were in attendance as financial contributors! What!!!!
Drew Holcomb and all our Neighbors Came to Town
It was very kind of Drew Holcomb to come to town so that everyone in Winston-Salem could have a chance to come together and catch up with each other.
Ned Voluntarily Goes Under the Knife
Ned went under the knife on Thursday to address a nagging hernia in his neck. The surgery was successful. Praying for a swift recovery.
Ned honestly feels great. And LOOKS great with his new turtleneck.
The best news is that his voice is totally shot, so the rest of us don't have to listen to him!
Hoping it returns by the weekend as he is scheduled to give two talks!
COVID rears its Ugly Head
We are not out of the woods yet. Poor Callie and Lucy tested positive for Covid. Erg. Callie Is on the mend and Lucy is asymptomatic, praise the Lord.

UPDATE Week of September 27
FINDING OUR RHYTHM
We have learned over the years to ramp up our programming for the Fellows. Each week in September, we map on one more element until we get to our weekly rhythm. This week, we have finally arrived! All that to say, the Fellows have not been idle. Far from it! Here are a few things we have been up to the last week.
Boys and Girls Round Tables
Our first three Round Tables have been hosted this year by Fellows Alumns! How cool is that?
Thank you to Hayes and Haley Mabry!
Thank you to the Miller Mansion (Caleb, Owen, Sam and Wil)
Thank you to the Hawthorne House (Bryn, Caroline, Louise and Michelle)
What a gift you all are!
Jayson Sloan for the Win
We had to make a quick substitute for our Leader Lunch two weeks ago. Fortunately, we have an incredible bull pen.
Jayson Sloan, one of our newest Board Members, stepped up and brought the heat!
I had the privilege of going to hear him twice that week as I visited St. Peters World Outreach
Dr. Anthony Atala blows our Minds
We had the honor of spending a couple hours over at WFIRM (Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine) with Dr. Anthony Atala.
Dr. Atala shared his story as well as insights on how his faith has impacted his work and how his work has impacted his faith. It was mind-blowing!
Afterward, we were able to get a tour of the facilities. What a cool experience to see Real Life Science NON-Fiction!
Thank you Tony!
Hanging Out at Hanging Rock
We were in Emi's element two Fridays ago as we took class on the road to spend the morning learning from God's Creation.
The crew.
Meg does not want me to tell you who won
What an awesome day! We are so blessed in the Piedmont to be so near so many state parks and other beautiful places.
Center For Creative Leadership
Thursday and Friday, we spent in Greensboro with the Greensboro Fellows, no less, at the center for Creative Leadership.
We spent two days thinking and learning about Self-Awareness, Communication, Learning Agility, and Influence.
Thank you Creative Team for your facilitation.
We ended our time together sharing Vision Statements and speaking truth over each other. POWERFUL!
Mattie's Wedding!
To no one's surprise Mattie was a beautiful bride!
And threw a party for the ages. So happy for them (Mattie and Trad). May the Lord rest his favor on you, your marriage, your family, and the community where you live.
Rahel's Engagement!
We also celebrate first year Fellow Rahel's engagement.
You are one lucky ducky Zach!
September Birthdays!
September is definitely loaded with birthdays. This ain't all of them, but last week we celebrated Sydney's, Louise's and Caleb's back to back to back!
Thomas Laws is coming up this Thursday.
Even the Co-Director had one!
Recruiting

AND...WE'RE OFF!!!
We have kicked off our Seventh Class of the Winston-Salem Fellows!
I couldn't be more excited and grateful for this group of men and women. They are ALL IN. You may notice we are a few less this year. But don't let that fool you into thinking that this group is any less. We got some world changers right here.
MOVE IN
We welcomed families and carried boxes for it felt like days - oh yeah, it was! Fellows started moving in over the weekend all the way up to 11:45am on Wednesday!
Lucy (above) took three days driving here from Colorado!
Jazmine brought an entourage!
ALUMNI WELCOME BONFIRE
Fellows from several classes organized a bonfire for us on Tuesday night.
It was a ton of fun. Anna Rose fits right in! How did that happen!
ORIENTATION
We were blessed once again by the generosity of a Winston-Salem family to allow us to spend several days at Lake Norman for our Orientation Advance.
We played my favorite game
We went for a hike in the state park
And we sealed our time together with several Fellows traditions.
Truly, we are off to a great start!
WS OPEN
Saturday afternoon, we were invited to take part in another wonderful Winston-Salem tradition by attending the finals of the WS Open!
I have never sweated so much!
Thankfully, the after party was indoors!
BOARD PICNIC
We reinstated a Sunday evening picnic after a few years of Covid breaks. What a sweet relaxing time.
FIRST DAY OF WORK
Jazmine is ready for Day 1
Thomas created his own First Day poster!
FIRST ROUND TABLE
the Fellows came over to Casa Erickson for our first Round Table of the year.
The goats were a big hit.
RECRUITMENT
Unfortunately, Steven is too old to be a Fellow (he could actually run the Fellows if he wanted to - he has far surpassed his old Young Life leader in every way).
BUT! He would love for you to help us recruit for next year so Calvary Baptist can become one of our newest church partners.
If you know someone recently graduated or graduating in 2023 - it is not too early to put us in touch! We are already talking to a few potential recruits!
